Of Poets & Other Abandoned Things: Day 29

Day 29

Photographer: Rubben Mabuku

She was unapologetically vulnerable.
And it was indeed magical.
Being a black woman in a world that taught her that she had to be hard.
In a world that told her to be successful, she had to act like a man.
In a world that was constantly trying to slut shame her.
In a world that fed off her being insecure.
She didn't wear her heart on her sleeve, she wore it on her chest
On the taste of her breath.
When she walked into a room, there were no doubts that she was a lover.
When she leaves you deeply ponder if you could ever find another.
Anybody anything like her, anybody like Lacy Lover.

Phenomenal woman,
That is she.
I hope the poets before her would proud of the woman she has chosen to be.
